For the last three years or so, I’ve followed the efforts of our leaders to resolve this sub-prime meltdown. I’m not an expert, but haven’t we already thrown money at this problem? The FED has made hundreds of BILLIONS available to lenders already. Congress has passed laws to allow the GSE’s Fannie and Freddie to operate with lower reserves, less regulation and minimal government oversight. Wall St has been given a green light in reguard to SEC oversight while Corporate CEOs have been running companies with no real accountability and the reassurance of a “Golden Parachute” exit package. Lenders, who were influenced by Wall Street investors to create these sub prime loans are reaping the effects predicted. One exception, they have a government tax payer bail out to count on. Our administration and law makers have been “asleep at the switch” with little or no consequesnces to the bungling of their responsibilities. There seems to be very little awareness or accountability from our leaders. Our political leaders seem to arise from their vacations only when dire straits dictate their pressence, only to batter each other and point out the obvious and then make a spectical of how hard they are working. I believe the world they live in is skewed by several factors and here in lies the real problems. GREED and CORRUPTION. Until these issues are addressed in our political system in Washington, on Wall St and in the world of corporate CEO’s, then there is no amount of money that will resolve our financial and economic position. Without a moral compass to direct the decisions of our leaders, the deceiptfulness of riches and the temptations that money brings, will be the defining code of ethics. Not to seem “preachy,” but let’s look at some of our systems. We have allowed Washington to be assaulted by “Bribers” for lack of a better word lets call them “Lobbyists.” For some reason they are allowed to meet with and have special time with our Senators and Congressmen to share the ideas of their employers who sent them. Not to mention the that these “lobbyists” bring with them untold riches. I’ve heard the term Main Street mentioned a lot lately and I guess that means you and me. But I can’t remember the last time I sat down for a face to face with a Congressman or Senator to express my ideas or feelings. Let’s face it, no one is perfect, we have all fallen short. But to allow our systems both political and financial, to continue to operate within a broken frame work of immoral rules and boundaries with no real consequences, then the only results that we can expect are the same as we’ve allowed to this point. The time has surely come to re-construct our systems starting with the foundation of “doing the right thing” framed with the characteristics of honesty, integrity and fairness.
